Who is Abbie, anyways?
Abbie walked into her first yoga class on a whim, took the biggest breath of her life, and never stopped practicing. She was 40 lbs over a healthy weight, and had convinced herself that she would never be flexible. She was wrong.
In 2010, after a year of falling in love with yoga, Abbie committed to a daily personal yoga practice. Although the venue for practice has ranged from an airport floor to the beaches of Kona, HI, the pillars of the practice are the same: find your breath, feel your body, and get out of your head.
Abbie was born and raised in Virginia, but became a Boston transplant in her 20s. She moved to San Francisco in 2011, and has absolutely zero plans of leaving her home by the Bay. (Although she is a passionate believer that you should never say never!)
In June of 2014, Abbie left her job as a Vice President of Chubb Insurance to pursue her passion for yoga and writing. What started out as a break to write a book has turned into a life-changing career shift to teaching high-risk youth and focused freelance writing in the yoga and fitness industry. That book will happen eventually, but life is happening now.
Abbie teaches weekly classes throughout the Bay Area and is on staff at both Flying Studios and Innerstellar Yoga and Pilates Studio. She is an active board member of Lemonade, a non-profit organization that brings yoga to San Francisco’s Juvenile Hall, and is dedicated to bringing mindful movement to teenagers.
She is supported in life and in love by her partner, Tim, and has two furry feline gurus named Wren and Scout. She has a village of friends and family that challenge and lift her up each and every day.
Abbie has been a dedicated Forrest Yoga practitioner for many years. Her personal practice infuses many of the aspects of the Forrest practice, along with the Lighting the Path teachings of Pete Guinosso.
Her favorite practice is the one that makes her feel happy, healthy, and whole. With a teaching style that offers individuals a compassionate space to be themselves, Abbie is dedicated to letting students explore how yoga resonates with their bodies and unique needs.
Abbie teaches vigorous, slow-flow classes deeply rooted in the Forrest tradition, with a focus on the breath and smart sequencing. She completed her initial 200-hr teacher training with her primary teacher, Pete Guinosso, and has completed both the Forrest Yoga Foundation Teacher Training and Forrest Yoga Advanced Training with Ana Forrest. She is E-RYT 200 through Yoga Alliance.
